Announced today – 13th of June 2024, Eric Zie the founder and CEO at GoCodeGreen has been appointed as the visiting professor for Digital and ICT Sustainability at the University of Suffolk Sustainability Institute.
The Suffolk Sustainability Institute is committed to tackling the causes of climate change. The impacts of climate change and environmental degradation are amongst the greatest threats to public health, the global economy and biodiversity.
Their aim is to make our research accessible to all and bring tangible benefits at a global, national and local scale in terms of climate change mitigation and adaptation as we work towards a low-carbon future through the active decarbonisation of the built environment, industry and physical infrastructure.
Their mission is to contribute to, and lead on, quality research, training, and innovation towards effective action on climate change, sustainable use of resources and a healthy environment.
Eric is the Founder and CEO of GoCodeGreen. He has established a UK SME that is now world-recognised as a leader in the decarbonisation of technology and the digital world. His technical efforts have seen him help shape the sector’s perspective on its own role and opportunity to take action to reduce the environmental impact of technology and to start creating a sustainable foundation for future digital growth.
Eric is a career technologist, having worked for over 30 years across software design and development, architecture, strategy, and innovation. He has worked in both the buy and sell sides of IT, with digital start-ups and large corporations across Europe and Asia Pacific.
Eric is a multi-award winner, including a Google Brain Award for best use of AI. His efforts to promote sustainability across technology have earned him the title of Computing’s Digital Ambassador of the Year, and recent nominations for the Earthshot Prize in the Fix Our Climate category for GoCodeGreen and recognition as a World Green Technology Leader. Eric is also the vice chair of TechUK’s Climate Council and a partner with the ITU, the UN’s specialised agency for ICT.
The publication of his guidebook, ‘Decarbonise Digital’, has further enhanced Eric’s thought leadership and business influence. Clients and partner organisations are now utilising his vision in an advisory role, and he is passionate about working with the next generation of students who will shape our future digital world.
Eric will be working with Professor Darryl Newport – Director of the Suffolk Sustainability Institute. Eric’s appointment, acknowledges his pivotal role in transforming our understanding of the environmental impact of ICT and digital technologies.
