This week we celebrate our 4th birthday and the beginning of our 5th year in business. When our founder Eric sat down to register GoCodeGreen at companies house, non of us could have imagined the incredible journey ahead.
We have hired our first employees, sent our first invoices, sponsored our first events and given more talks & webinars than we can keep track of. We have signed partnerships with some of the biggest brands in consulting and assessed some of the World’s biggest banks and Government departments. We became a Certified B-Corp, earned the right to call ourselves a Cool Vendor by Gartner and won a bucket load of awards for our products, our approach and for our people. We were even nominated (twice) for the Earthshot prize.
In 2021, few were talking about the environmental impact of technology. From that standing start, we have built a business and a suite of tools that we would argue are market leading– 12 at last count – that are helping transform the industry. Our client book is heading swiftly towards 3 figures, with more than 50 organisations already The impact…well, we have measured more than 25000 tCO2e of emissions from software and helped our clients eliminate over 6000 tCO2e of emissions, the equivalent of planting over a quarter of a million trees. We love a tree at GCG, it’s why all our products are named after one, but if we only focussed on offsetting rather than reducing our impact there is simply not enough room on the planet to plant all the trees it would take to mitigate technologies impact.
But it’s not just about the Planet. Our mission impacts People too. In a world increasingly shaped by generative AI, it’s still humans who design, build, and choose the software. That’s why we’ve developed 8 training courses (with 2 more on the way) and trained over 1,000 engineers, designers, and tech leaders so far. All of this has allowed us to bring in our first graduates, the next generation of planet changers ready to take on the world.
The final pillar…Profit. Yes, we’re a business. Yes, we’re growing. But what really excites us? Proving that reducing tech emissions doesn’t just help the planet—it saves money too. Efficiency is good for business and the environment. So Happy Birthday us and let’s hope that in 4 more years we have made a much bigger dent in the emissions of the organisations we work with.
We are only just getting started!
